NAME: Dr. Ian Malcolm

WORK OF FICTION: The "Jurassic Park" franchise. Mainly, the Universal Pictures release of "Jurassic Park" in 1993, and then again in "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" in 1997. AND MAKING A COMEBACK IN THE UPCOMING "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" in June!

CHARACTER TYPE: Dr. Ian Malcolm is a mathematician/chaotician. (Whatever the heck THAT is... But Malcolm swears that chaos theory a real---and fascinating---field of study.

REASON FOR INCLUSION: First of all..... He is Jeff Goldblum. I mean, that is one of the main reasons I have included him in my list. That man is just AMAZING. Is he a phenomenal actor? Mmmmm.... debatable. Is he an entertaining actor? You bet your 80's leather pants and permed mullet, he is! And he definitely did not disappoint as the charismatic---or obnoxious; whichever side of the fence you sit on---Dr. Ian Malcolm. The suave and slightly egotistical Malcolm is a crucial character to the films' dynamics. Whether he is saying something awkward and unexpected (and probably unscripted), or spouting off facts about his beloved area of expertise, or just laying on the table, shirt unbuttoned just-so, staring with a smolder in an Adonis-like, unnecessary silence... The guy is such a giant part of why I love this movie. And what makes him one of my favorite fictional characters is the fact that he is BASICALLY just Jeff Goldblum portraying himself under a different name. That is 100% OK, because Jeff Goldblum is hysterical and awkward and tall and makes me laugh and I just can't get enough of him. So, if you have never seen "Jurassic Park"... Step 1.) Get out from beneath that rock that you live under... Step 2.) Watch it, knowing that the debonair Dr. Ian Malcolm will bring a smile to your face. (And maybe make you cringe a little, with his off-the-charts awkwardness.) But, hey! He's made some good money being a lovable weirdo. Maybe I should rethink my career choices.... :)
